Since 2022, Hendrik Zimmer has focused on the technique of woodcut, an old artistic process that he has been reinterpreting. Accentuated outlines, stylization of the surface, a tendency towards closed areas of colour and strict geometrization are characteristics of this technique, which Zimmer deliberately integrates into his clear, powerful images. In doing so, he experiments with different color densities, color intensities and structures and continues the characteristic play of his earlier works, which oscillates between two- and three-dimensionality, between pictorial surface and pictorial depth. He is particularly interested in materiality and the artistic creation process, which he describes as a process in which the works are created 'like a painting by sculpture'.
Zimmer develops his visual language by combining forms and objects from different contexts. From this, he develops his own pictorial realms that do not 'depict' anything, but are something entirely of his own. They arise from Zimmer's 'fascination with the world and its people, its beauty and its abysses', hinting at the familiar, but allowing the viewer to fill the resulting spaces with their own observations, experiences and memories. Zimmer's works are about 'the truthfulness of the seeker, about process and change'. This is evident not only in the open legibility of his pictures, but also in the visibility of his working process. The artistic process of creation, the transformation of the image, but also its perception are Zimmer's artistic driving forces.

His new works once again emphasize Zimmer's love for posters, book illustrations and all kinds of printed matter. While he previously used these as material or templates, he now turns to the technique of woodblock printing, the oldest method of reproducing images. Like the artists of the European avant-garde of the 20th century, Zimmer drew on the technique of the great Japanese woodcut workshops, which had been producing multi-colored prints since the 10th century. This allows him to play with a variety of colors, sometimes bright, sometimes saturated. The use of rather rough canvases, as well as experimenting with paper as an additional layer, also opens up further wide-ranging possibilities for Zimmer's use of color. The result are unique pieces, reminiscent of artworks from the 1920s and 60s, which simultaneously feature Zimmer's distinctive signature.

Ulf Puder’s second exhibition in the gallery Heike Strelow , titled "Räumlichkeiten", showcases the latest works of the painter.
In the years 2022 and 2023, Ulf Puder's art predominantly captured the grandeur of expansive, winter-clad mountain scenes. However, a captivating shift is underway as the artist delves into the exploration of deserted structures, frequently intertwined with the rugged beauty of mountain formations. The paintings portray landscapes imbued with primal force, juxtaposed with modernist or minimally traditional residential architectures. The resulting images narrate the existential interplay between nature and culture, revealing captivating yet occasionally unsettling tensions in their coexistence.

Some works intensify this narrative through additional space-defining elements like golden spheres or gold-colored rock formations, serving as connectors between landscape and architecture. These forms, historically representing the sun or cosmic elements such as meteorites in the realm of painting, introduce further existential dimensions to the images. They simultaneously underscore the significance of form and color for Ulf Puder. In these new works, the artist continues to navigate the threshold between representational and abstract art, constructing representative images from organic and geometric, abstract forms. Combined with an atmospherically rich color palette punctuated by luminous details, architectural landscapes unfold before our eyes—familiar yet seemingly beyond space and time.

In the exhibition (C6H10O5)n | The Art of Handling Paper we present works by 11 artists that give us an idea of the almost infinite possibilities of processing, reusing or manipulating paper: From works whose starting point is paper as a medium for drawing and painting, to sculptural objects and installations that show us paper as a material in its own right. There are collages and decollages, frottages, ballpoint pen and graphite drawings, as well as folded, stacked, woven, glued, cut and scratched paper works.As diverse as the exhibited works are, it is evident in all of them that their creators are fascinated by the sensuality and versatility of the material.

Eine reduzierte Bildsprache bei gleichzeitiger Konzentration auf das Wesentliche ihres künstlerischen Anliegens, gepaart mit einem hohen Maß an Sinnlichkeit, verbindet die Werke von Nadja Adelmann (*1987) und Alyona Volkova (*1994), die in einer Klasse an der Frankfurter Städelschule bei Tobias Rehberger studiert haben. Sowohl in der Installation als auch in der Malerei schaffen sie Kunstwerke, die den Betrachter nicht nur inhaltlich, sondern auch durch überraschende, in ihrer Bedeutung pointierte oder visuell akribisch ausgearbeitete Details in ihren Bann ziehen und ihm so einen kontemplativen Zugang ermöglichen. Dabei wird deutlich, dass die Bilder und Skulpturen von Alyona Volkova zwar einer figurativen Sprache verpflichtet sind und die künstlerische Handschrift durch den malerischen Prozess sichtbar bleibt, sie aber mit den abstrakten Skulpturen aus industriell gefertigten Materialien von Nadja Adelmann durch eine minimalistische künstlerische Grundhaltung verbunden sind. Dies wird auch dadurch unterstrichen, dass beide die zentrale Bedeutung ihrer Werke auf die Rezeption durch die Betrachterinnen und Betrachter verlagert haben.

Beide Künstlerinnen verwandeln die Wellen ihrer Gefühle und Gedanken in Materie, um mit den Menschen in Resonanz zu treten und in ihnen wiederum Wellen zu erzeugen. 

Konzeptionell arbeitet Nadja Adelmann von außen nach innen. Sie beobachtet die Gesellschaft um sie herum mit Hilfe von Wahrnehmungstheorien, Soziologie, Quantenphysik und Linguistik, um sie dann durch ihre eigenen Linsen und Filter zu verarbeiten. AlyonaVolkova hingegen erkundet die Ontologie (das Wesen des Seins) dessen, was innerhalb der sichtbaren Materie liegt - die innere Welt - und setzt sich gleichzeitig mit philosophischen Konzepten des Bewusstseins und des inneren Friedens auseinander, die in westlichen und östlichen Philosophien zu finden sind.

Als weiteres verbindendes Element zieht sich das Motiv der Zeit wie ein roter Faden durch die Werke der beiden Künstlerinnen. Während Alyona Volkova mit ihren Gemälden und Skulpturen das Moment der Zeitlosigkeit bildlich festhalten will, bedient sich NadjaAdelmann bei ihren Skulpturen oftmals der unendlichen Wiederholung von Bewegung, um dieses Gefühl der Losgelöstheit aus der Zeit selbst zu erzeugen und so dem Betrachter zu ermöglichen, in das Werk einzutauchen. Das Moment der Zeitlosigkeit ist jedoch bei beiden kein statischer Zustand. Im Gegenteil - ganz im Sinne des heraklitischen Panta Rhei befinden sich auch die Arbeiten der beiden Künstlerinnen durch die Interaktion mit dem Betrachter in einem ständigen Fluss.

At a time when gender roles are being redefined and gender equality is being sought, it is also necessary to reflect on what constitutes the concept of the feminine (des Weiblichen) today. The topic is very complex, as it is strongly determined by social constructions and cultural norms that are subject to permanent change. Even though the topic is ultimately inseparable from the role of women in society, the exhibition, which is to be the prelude to a series of group exhibitions on this topic, would like to focus primarily on the physical aspects of the feminine. This is connected with a variety of questions that have always been of importance across epochs and cultures and are still controversially discussed today. 

The exhibition DAS WEIBLICHE shows works by 5 artists and 2 artists from Great Britain, Spain, Venezuela/South Korea and the USA, whose paintings and sculptures deal with different aspects of the visualisation, perception and social reception of the female body.
